Frankfurt, 17th August - Air Berlin PLC has acquired 100 per cent of
the shares in dba Luftfahrtgesellschaft Munich. On the occasion of
the dba acquisition, Air Berlin PLC is to publish its report for the
second quarter of 2006 earlier than scheduled, on Thursday. In the
period between April to June of this year, Air Berlin PLC achieved a
turnover of 401 million euros. In the comparable period of 2005, the
equivalent figure was 330 million euros. On a cumulated basis, the
turnover in the first half-year increased from 545.8 million euros
(2005) to 625 million euros (2006). In the second quarter, EBIT was
44.8 million euros after 8.8 million euros in the comparable period
of the previous year. In a six-month comparison, the operating loss
which is traditionally generated in air travel in the first quarter,
narrowed from 28.2 million euros to 12.9 million euros. The net
result in the second quarter of the current year was 30.1 million
euros. In the comparable period of the previous year, the figure was
-4.2 million euros. On a cumulative basis in the first half-year of
2006 a minus of 1 million euros was generated (2005: -43.1 million
euros). Here it should be taken into account that the final IPO costs
of 13.7 million euros are included in the second quarter. The
acquisition of dba will not result in any additional charges for the
Air Berlin result so that the management continues to expect a
considerable profit for the 2006 financial year.
